DellaTorre and Hackett Lead Softball To Win in Opener of Colby Series

WATERVILLE, Maine - Melissa DellaTorre pitched a complete game and Amy Hackett drove in a pair of runs for the Bowdoin College softball team in a 5-0 victory over Colby College in NESCAC East play Friday at Crafts Field.
 
DellaTorre moved to 13-5 this season while striking out two and walking one. The Mules fell to 8-17 overall and 0-7 in the league. The two teams will play again Saturday in a doubleheader at Bowdoin at noon.
 
The Polar Bears (23-10 overall, 4-3 NESCAC) scored three times in the first inning to take control. Hillary Smyth walked to start the game and moved to second on a stolen base. Gen Barlow had a one-out double to score Smyth and Hackett smacked a two-out RBI single to score Barlow. After Hackett stole second base, Casey Correa followed with an RBI single.
 
Bowdoin scored the other two runs in the sixth inning when Barlow had a one-out single and stole second base. With two outs again, Hackett ripped an RBI triple to bring in Barlow. Siena Mitman, who was in a pinch-hit role, had an RBI single to bring in Hackett.
 
Hackett had two runs, two hits, and two RBI for the winners. Barlow also had two hits and two runs while driving in one.
 
Lauren Becker had two of Colby's four hits in the game.
