Box Score 2 LAKELAND, Fla. - The Bowdoin College baseball team improved to 4-0 with a sweep of Westfield State on Tuesday in Florida. The Polar Bears romped to a 13-2 win in the opener before edging the Owls 3-2 in the second contest.
Bowdoin's pitching continued to shine, with John Lefeber earning the game one win with six strong innings, striking out seven and allowing no earned runs. Jay Loughlin earned his first collegiate victory in game two by allowing two earned runs and
striking out five over six frames.
The Polar Bears used a five-run third inning and six runs in the fifth to ease to the game one victory. Buddy Shea and Erik Jacobsen delivered RBI hits in the third while Kyle LeBlanc and Dan Findley keyed the fifth-inning rally with run-scoring hits. Luke Regan and LeBlanc each had two hits in the win while Shea, Jacobsen and Matt Savard had two RBI each. Findley led the Bowdoin attack with four RBI. Kevin McDonough tossed a perfect seventh inning to seal the game.
Bowdoin scored three times in the fifth to take the win in the nightcap. Jacobsen delivered another key hit, scoring pinch-runner Chris Cameron to give the Polar Bears the lead. Two batters later, Tim McGarry laced a single down to right that scored LeBlanc and Jacobsen. The Owls scored once in the fifth and sixth against Louglin, but Ian Edwards escaped trouble in the seventh to earn the save.
The Polar Bears will play a doubleheader against Rhode Island College on Wednesday before having two off-days.
