WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Bowdoin College men's swimming and diving team earned its best-ever finish at the NESCAC Championship this weekend at Williams College.
The Polar Bears accumulated 903 points to finish in fifth-place overall, marking the program's best-ever showing in the 12-year history of the event.
Bowdoin shattered ten school records, including three by Mac Routh, who also contributed to four relay marks as well over the weekend. Routh collected the Polar Bears' lone win of the weekend in Friday night's 50 butterfly and also placed second in the 50 backstroke, and fourth in the 100 fly.
Nathan Mecray established a new school record in the 100 breaststroke and pitched in on the four new relay standards as well. Individually, Mecray was second in both the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke while also earning fourth in the 50 breaststroke. Basyl Stuyvesant set two new school records and placed fourth in both the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke at the championship for the Polar Bears.
Other top individual finishes for Bowdoin included Chris Granata's fifth-place finish in the 200 fly and Ryan Peabody's seventh-place in the 400 IM. Tom Kramer led a deep crop of Bowdoin divers at the competition by taking sixth in both the one and three-meter events as the Polar Bear divers led all schools in total points from the board this weekend.
In the relay events, Bowdoin took third in the 200 free relay (Mecray, E.J. Googins, William Shi, Routh), fourth in the 400 medley (Stuyvesant, Mecray, Routh, Linc Rhodes) and fourth in the 200 medley (Stuyvesant, Mecray, Routh, Shi).
Selections for the men's and women's NCAA Championship meet will be released later this week.
