CLERMONT, Fla. - The Bowdoin College softball team split a twinbill on Tuesday in Florida, losing an early game to Wisconsin-Stevens Point and bouncing back with a victory against Plymouth State. The split moved Bowdoin to 5-7 overall this spring.
Stevens Point's Elyse Nelson went 3-3 with two home runs, including a grand slam, as the Pointers roughed up Bowdoin starter Tricia Thibodeau in a 10-1 decision to open Tuesday's action. Bowdoin mustered a few rallies, thanks to a pair of hits from Kara Nilan and an RBI from Toni DaCampo, but couldn't push more than one run across in the setback.
The Polar Bears rebounded in the late game, as Nilan spun a gem - tossing a shutout and allowing just three hits with five strikeouts - in a 5-1 regional victory against Plymouth State. Caroline Dewar continued her hot play at the plate by going 3-4 with an inside-the-park home run while DaCampo collected two more hits.
Bowdoin will play two more on Wednesday against Hamline and Western Connecticut.
