Bowdoin Finishes Sixth at NESCAC Championship

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Bowdoin College men's squash team went 2-2 and finished in sixth place overall at the NESCAC Championship hosted by Trinity College last weekend. The Polar Bears easily handled Connecticut College, 8-1, in their opening-round victory before being eliminated from the championship bracket by Bates, 7-2, in the quarterfinals.

The Polar Bears took wins at the top eight positions on the ladder against the Camels in an easy 8-1 win. Andy Bernard (#1), Stephan Danyluk (#2), William Fantini (#3), Andrew Hilboldt (#4), Barrett Takesian (#5), Rahul Madan-Mohan (#6), Chris Jayne (#7) and Reid Wilson (#8) all netted points in the victory.

Bowdoin was unable to pull of an upset against Bates in a match that was closer than the score indicated. Fantini (#3) and Takesian (#5) earned the two Polar Bear points, but Bowdoin lost four five-set decisions that proved to be the difference.

The Polar Bears bounced back in a consolation round match against Wesleyan, winning 7-2. Danyluk (#2), Fantini (#3), Hilboldt (#4), Takesian (#5), Madan-Mohan (#6), Wilson (#8) and Will Winmill (#9) took the Bowdoin points. Bowdoin suffered a hard-fought loss in the fifth-place match to Amherst, 5-4, despite victories from Bernard, Fantini, Hilboldt and Takesian (#5).
