Men's Hockey Downs NEC, Nets Fifth Seed in NESCAC's

HENNIKER, N.H. - The Bowdoin College men's ice hockey team will carry a two-game winning streak into the NESCAC Tournament after defeating New England College 3-0 in their regular season finale Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears finish at 15-7-1 (11-7-0 NESCAC) which places fifth in the final conference standings. Bowdoin will travel to fourth-seeded Amherst for a 1:00 Quarterfinal game on February 26.

Rob MacGregor, Owen Smith and Daniel Weiniger scored in the victory for the Polar Bears.

The two teams would battle through a scoreless opening period of play as Bowdoin would outshoot NEC 17-8. Bowdoin's MacGregor would break the scoring drought just 3:08 into the second period as he would scoring a breakaway goal assisted by Weiniger.  The Polar Bears would extend their lead to 2-0 just minutes later as Smith would rebound in a shot from Aaron O'Callahan.

The Pilgrim offense would struggle to muster a goal as the Bowdoin would hold NEC to 0-for-6 on the power-play. Bowdoin's Weiniger would tack on an empty-netter with just 12 seconds remaining in regulation as the Polar Bears would go on to capture the 3-0 victory.

Bowdoin finished the game outshooting NEC 41-20. Picking up the shutout win in goal for Bowdoin was Richard Nerland who finished with 20 saves.  In goal for NEC was Aaron Harvey who finished with an impressive 39 saves.
