Gould to the Rescue as Polar Bears Net Important League Win at Trinity

Box Score

HARTFORD, Conn. - Ellery Gould scored twice, including the game-winner in overtime, as the Bowdoin College women's soccer team earned a key 3-2 victory at Trinity on Saturday.

The win gives the Polar Bears (6-4-3, 2-4-3) control of their own playoff destiny heading into Wednesday afternoon's regular season finale. Trinity slips to 5-6-2 overall and 2-5-2 in the NESCAC.

All the scoring took place after the 60th minute, as Gould got it started with a header off a cross by freshman back Abby Einwag at the 60:35 mark.  Trinity senior co-captain forward Jenny Ley answered with a tally from fellow senior co-captain Leigh Howard in the 64th minute and added an unassisted goal with 11:21 on the clock.

Polar Bear rookie midfielder Amanda Kinneston brought the visitors right back, converting on a feed by senior tri-captain forward Celeste Swain just 32 seconds later to force the overtime.

Gould's goal gave Bowdoin the victory despite a 21-11 deficit in shots.  Polar Bear sophomore goalie Maddie Lane made nine saves and Trinity senior goalie Lily Pepper had six stops.

Bowdoin currently has a hold on the final spot for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament and, with a win against Tufts on Senior Day Wednesday afternoon, can clinch a postseason bid regardless of what other teams do. The Polar Bears, after starting 0-3-2 in league play, are 2-1-1 in their last four conference matches.
