BRUNSWICK, Maine – Daniel Weiniger scored two goals and an assist to lead the Bowdoin College men's ice hockey team to a 7-1 win over Assumption College on Tuesday evening at Sidney J. Watson Arena. The Polar Bears, ranked fifth in the latest USCHO.com Division III poll, improve to 12-3-0 on the season while the Greyhounds fall to 7-11-0.

Colin Downey and Ollie Koo each had a goal and an assist for the Polar Bears, who will host a key NESCAC weekend against Williams (7:00 p.m. Friday) and Middlebury (4:00 p.m. Saturday).

After a controlling the pace of play for the majority of the frame, the NESCAC's leading scorer got Bowdoin on the board late in the opening period. Weiniger skated the length of the ice, weaving through Assumption defenders and slipping the puck between the pads of goaltender Nick Blanchette on the power play at 16:03. Weiniger set up Bowdoin's second goal of the stanza, forcing a turnover in the Assumption zone and feeding Colin Downey on the doorstep at 18:42.

Ollie Koo's first career goal, on the power play at 2:13 of the second period, increased Bowdoin's lead to three goals. The Greyhounds got one back at 15:42 when a Bowdoin turnover resulted in a breakaway chance for Taylor Larsen, who deposited the puck between the leg pads of Richard Nerland to make it 3-1. Given a power play towards the end of the period, the Polar Bears took advantage as Weiniger's wrister from between the circles found the top corner at 19:06 to make it 4-1 after two periods of play.

Harry Matheson added Bowdoin's fifth goal at 4:51 of the final period and Ben Tsujiura netted his second career tally at 15:44 before Nick Raffone potted his first career score at 18:00 to round out the scoring. Nerland finished with 20 saves while Blanchette finished with 48 for the game.
