BOX SCORE
STANDISH, Maine - The St. Joseph's College Monks rallied from a
two-run deficit to defeat Bowdoin, 7-3, on Tuesday afternoon in a
non-conference battle between the Maine rivals. The Monks improve
to 15-8 while the Polar Bears, ranked first in the latest New
England poll, drop to 15-5 on the season.
Bowdoin jumped out to a two-run edge after single scores in the
fourth and fifth frames, with Dan Hicks scoring on an RBI groundout
from Joe Comizio and Reid Auger singling home Jordan Edgett.
The Monks bounced back with a pair of big innings, scoring three
times in the fifth and adding four more in the seventh to take a
five-run lead. Chris Campbell sparked the Monks with three hits and
two runs in the game.
Hicks was able to cut into the lead with a solo home run in the
top of the eighth, but Bowdoin could not mount a further rally and
lost for just the second time in their last eight games.
In addition to Hicks' two hits, Adam Marquit had a pair of knocks
for the Polar Bears. Joe Pace was tagged with the loss, allowing
six earned runs in 6.2 innings while striking out nine. Bowdoin
will return to action on Friday with their home-opener against
Thomas. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
