WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Bowdoin College baseball team continued
to roll, extending their winning streak to five games with a
doubleheader sweep over Roger Williams, 11-7 and 4-1 on Friday. The
Polar Bears stand at 7-1 overall this spring.
The Polar Bears jumped out to a big lead and held off Roger
Williams in the opener as Tim Welch scattered eight hits and struck
out six over five innings. Reid Auger went 3-4 with a double, home
run and two RBI while Matt Ruane reached base four times, including
a home run, two walks and a stolen base. Brendan Garner also added
a pair of hits for Bowdoin while Eric Chenelle closed out the game
to earn the save.
Oliver Van Zant dominated on the hill in the nightcap, striking
out 10 batters and allowing just two hits in the victory. Auger
continued to rake, going 2-3 with a double, walk, stolen base and
two RBI. Brett Gorman rapped a solo homer while Matt Ruane knocked
a double. Joe Comizio earned the save with two strikeouts in the
final inning.
