CLERMONT, Fla. - The Bowdoin College softball team started their
2010 with a flourish, sweeping Mount Saint Vincent and Keene State
without allowing a run on Tuesday. The Polar Bears mercy-ruled
Mount Saint Vincent 14 -0 before cruising past the Owls, 5-0.
First-year Tricia Thibodeau allowed just two hits to earn her
first career win in the circle for Bowdoin. The Polar Bears jumped
all over Dolphins for 14 runs and 17 hits in just five innings,
sparked by a 3-4 performance from Hillary Smyth, who swatted a
single, double and triple. Jamie Paul also had three hits in the
victory while Caroline Dewar and Shavonne Lord collected two hits
apiece.
Julia Jacobs allowed just one hit in six innings against Keene
State and whiffed four in the victory. Smyth continued her hot
hitting, collecting two hits, including another triple. Kara Nilan
went 3-4 with a double and two RBI's for the Polar Bears, who also
got a pair of hits from Amy Hackett
