WATERVILLE, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's ice hockey team scored the final six goals of the game to pull away from Suffolk University, 6-2, on Sunday in day two of the Colby-Bowdoin Faceoff Classic at Colby College. The Polar Bears, ranked fourth in the nation in the latest USCHO.com Division III poll, improve to 3-0-0 overall this season.
First-year Colin Downey had his first two collegiate goals while Jeff Fanning also netted a pair to give the Polar Bears the comeback victory.
Down 2-0 late in the first period, Fanning's first goal trimmed the deficit to 2-1 after one period. Downey's first Bowdoin goal tied the game in the second period before Nick Wetzel's first career goal put the Polar Bears on top for good early in the third period. Bowdoin took over late in the stanza, as Downey and Fanning both scored their second goals of the game before Jordan Lalor closed out the scoring with 1:29 remaining.
Richard Nerland stopped 31 shots in the win for Bowdoin. Jeff Rose collected 41 saves for the Rams. Bowdoin will return to action this Friday and Saturday, December 3-4 at Skidmore and Castleton State.
