U.S. Under-18 Team Pulls Away Late From Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The U.S. Under-18 National Team scored a pair of shorthanded goals and pulled away late in a 4-1 exhibition win over Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears, who are ranked fourth in the latest Division III national poll, will play against Suffolk at Colby College on Sunday at noon in the second day of the Bowdoin-Colby Faceoff Classic.

Bowdoin got a third-period goal from Kyle Shearer-Hardy off a give-and-go with Ollie Koo. Steve Messina was outstanding in net, making 33 saves in the loss.

After an exciting first period that featured constant up-and-down action, J.T. Miller got Team USA on the board midway through the second period when he converted a 2-on-1 feed from Tyler Biggs at 10:52. The National Team was able to add another before intermission as Biggs ripped a one-timer to the top-right corner at 17:35 to give the visitors a 2-0 lead after two frames.

Rocco Grimaldi netted a pair of third-period scores, sandwiched around Shearer-Hardy's goal to close out the 4-1 final. John Gibson stopped 22 shots in net for the Under-18 squad.
