BRUNSWICK, Maine - Six different players scored as the Bowdoin
College men's soccer team dispatched St. Joseph's (Maine) College
on Sunday afternoon at Pickard Field, 6-0. The Polar Bears have won
three straight and improve to 4-1-2 overall this season while the
Monks drop to 5-5-2 this season.
Bowdoin wasted little time in taking control of the contest, as Ben
Brewster blasted home a rebound off a Nick Powell chance 9:30 into
the game for his first career goal. The Polar Bears were able to
double their lead by intermission as Tim Prior lifted a long
crossing pass into the box to Michael Gale, who settled and
ripped a chance to the lower-right corner to give the
hosts a 2-0 lead at intermission.
The Polar Bears scored four times in the second half to put
the game out of reach. Just five minutes into the second period, Daniel Chaffetz
launched a long throw into the box to Call Nichols, who tapped it
to a wide open Ben
Denton-Schneider for a goal at 50:50. Tim Prior finished off a
scrum at 54:46 before first-years Alex Marecki
and Evan
Gershkovich both tallied their first collegiate goals in the
final five minutes of play.
Nick Campasano played valiantly in net for the Monks, withstanding
constant Bowdoin pressure to make ten saves. The Polar Bears, who
held a 37-3 edge in shots, played three goaltenders - Dan Hicks (65 minutes, one
save), Will
Wise (21 minutes, one save) and Eric Edelman
(four minutes, no saves).
