BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's soccer team
secured a spot in the NESCAC Tournament with a key 3-0 win over
Trinity on Saturday afternoon at Pickard Field. The Polar Bears
improve to 6-5-2 (3-4-1 NESCAC) while the Bantams fall to 5-3-4
(3-3-2 NESCAC).
Bowdoin wasted little time jumping ahead on Saturday afternoon, as
a give-and-go between Celeste Swain and Ellery Gould resulted in a
shot from just outside the box from Gould, lofted over the
goaltender's head and into the left side of the net at 4:32. The
marker was Gould's team-leading 11th of the season and moves her
into a tie for fifth-place with Cyndy Falwell '99 on Bowdoin's
all-time goal-scoring list with 31.
The Polar Bears doubled their lead shortly before intermission as
first-year back Becky
Krakora took a pass from Stacie Sammott and snuck a
shot past Trinity's Emily Weeden for her first career goal at
42:48. Bowdoin clinched the win in the 67th minute when Christina Aceto finished off
a scramble in front of the net.
Bowdoin's Kat
Flaherty saved nine shots in the victory while Weeden stopped
six shots for Trinity. Both teams have one NESCAC game remaining in
the battle for playoff positioning. The Bantams will close out
their season next Friday at Amherst while the Polar Bears will
travel to play at Tufts. NESCAC Quarterfinal games are scheduled
for Sunday, October 31.
