BRUNSWICK, Maine - Three different Polar Bears scored as the
Bowdoin College women's soccer team defeated Connecticut College
3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Pickard Field. Bowdoin improves to
4-2-1 (2-2-1 NESCAC) with the win while the Camels fall to 2-3-1
(0-3-1 NESCAC) with the setback.
After a long possession - and several chances- midway through the
first half for Bowdoin, the Polar Bears broke through as Celeste Swain blasted a shot from the left wing past netminder Kirsten
Manville at the 17:03 mark. Ellery Gould set up Bowdoin's second
goal later in the period when she tapped a through-ball to the feet
of Casey Blossom, who split the defenders and tucked the ball in
the lower-right corner for a 2-0 lead at intermission.
Blossom returned the favor in the second half by finding Gould
with a cross. Gould notched her team-leading fifth goal of the
season when she headed the ball into the net for a 3-0 advantage.
The Camels were able to find a late goal when Jill Cote came loose
behind the Bowdoin defense and touched the ball into the left side
of the cage at 85:34.
That proved to be all that Bowdoin's Kat Flaherty would allow, as
the senior netminder made seven stops in the win. Manville stopped
four shots in the loss for the Camels.
