BOX SCORE
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The third-ranked Norwich University men's ice
hockey team remained unbeaten this season with a 4-2 win over
Bowdoin at Sidney J. Watson Arena on Friday. The Cadets improve to
10-0-2 with the victory while the Polar Bears fall to 6-3-0 this
season with the setback.
After Norwich controlled the pace of play for the opening few
minutes, an odd-man rush for Bowdoin resulted in a close shot from
Colin MacCormack that was saved by Ryan Klingensmith. MacCormack
recovered the rebound behind the cage and found Leland Fidler
between the circles, who slipped a low shot past Klingensmith to
give Bowdoin a one-goal lead at 4:52. The Cadets evened the score
late in the period when Emmond Bell beat a Bowdoin defender at the
right circle, skated in on Richard Nerland and beat the Polar Bear
netminder with a backhander inside the left post at 18:37.
A broken play in front resulted in Norwich's second goal of the
game as Greg Eskedjian collected a loose puck between the circles
and found DJ Fimiani waiting on the far post for a tap-in score at
11:45 of the second frame. Bowdoin evened the game on a 5x3
powerplay later in the period when Graham Sisson banged home a
rebound in front with 4:28 left in the period. But a late penalty
against the Polar Bears resulted in a powerplay goal for the Cadets
as Steven Schroeder snapped a wrist shot from the left wing that
trickled through the pads of Nerland to give the visitors a 3-2
advantage heading into the third.
Norwich added to their lead midway through the stanza, when a
Norwich rush found Blake Forkey ahead of the pack. Forkey ripped a
shot to the top-right corner with 10:10 remaining to seal the
win.
Richard Nerland stopped 25 shots for the Polar Bears while
Klingensmith made 21 saves for the Cadets. Bowdoin was 1-6 on the
powerplay while Norwich went 1-3 on the evening.
