BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College squash teams enjoyed a
successful weekend in hosting the Maine Round Robin at the Lubin
Family Squash Center. The Polar Bear women's team won a key match
against Columbia while the men's team earned four victories in six
matches.
The women's team rallied for a Saturday win against Columbia,
rallying from a 3-0 deficit to win the final six matches. Elizabeth
Warner, Bonnie Cao and Louisa Cannell brought the Polar Bears even
with victories at #2, #5 and #8 before Lauren Gesswein, Elizabeth
Schetman and Katie Boyce sealed the victory with wins at #1, #4 and
#7 for the Polar Bears. The Polar Bears dropped a 9-0 decision to
10th-ranked Brown on Sunday with Gesswein posting the lone point
for Bowdoin in a 3-1 loss at #1. The Polar Bear women are ranked
23rd nationally and stand at 4-9 this season.
The Bowdoin men started the weekend with a flourish, posting
four-straight 9-0 wins against Denison, MIT, Stanford and Columbia
before dropping a close decision to Brown, 5-4, and a 9-0 setback
to Dartmouth. Rahul Madan Mohan and William Fantini led the squad
with four victories over the weekend, while Andrew Bernard, Peter
Cipriano, Arun Makhija, Thai Ha-Ngoc and Andrew Hilboldt posted
three wins apiece for the Polar Bears. Bowdoin improved their
record to 10-7 and are ranked 15th nationally.
Both teams will compete in the 2010 NESCAC Championship at Trinity
next weekend.
