BOWDOIN-SALVE REGINA BOX SCORE
ST. JOSEPH'S-SKIDMORE BOX SCORE

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team cruised to victory over Salve Regina on Sunday, 73-46, to claim the 2010 Coastal Maine Classic crown with a perfect 2-0 mark over the two-day tournament. The fourth-ranked Polar Bears stand at 9-0 overall this season while Salve Regina, who dropped both games at the Classic this weekend, fall to 4-6 this year.

Bowdoin's Caitlin Hynes was named the Most Valuable Player of the Classic and was joined on the All-Classic team by teammate Kaitlin Donahoe. Salve's Lindsay Shorey, St. Joseph's Meghan Daigle and Skidmore's Sharlyn Harper were also named to the squad.

On Sunday afternoon, the Seahawks were able to hang with the Polar Bears for the first six minutes, and held an 11-10 lead after a spinning lay-in by Erin Phillips. Bowdoin responded with a 10-0 run, sparked by a Donahoe three-pointer, and never trailed again. Six consecutive points by the first-year point guard then keyed a 13-2 surge to close the first half, giving the hosts a 40-19 lead at intermission. The Polar Bears extended their lead to as many as 34 points in the second half en route to victory.

Twelve different Bowdoin players scored in the game, including 24 from the bench. Three players reached double digits, led by Donahoe, who finished with 16 points, six assists and three steals. Hynes, who scored 22 in the tournament opener against Skidmore, added 10 points and nine boards, while Leah Rubega netted 10 points and 11 caroms. Shorey led all scorers with 19 and seven rebounds for the Seahawks.

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Megan Gaugler and Sharlyn Harper scored 16 points apiece to lead the Skidmore College women's basketball team to a 60-49 win over St. Joseph's (Maine) College on Sunday at the Coastal Maine Classic hosted by Bowdoin College. Both teams finish the weekend with a 1-1 record as Skidmore improves to 7-1 overall. St. Joseph's falls to 6-5 with the setback.

The Thoroughbreds took the lead four minutes into Sunday's game and did not trail for the remainder of the contest. Skidmore carried a 32-26 lead into intermission thanks to a trio of first-half three-pointers from Gaugler. St. Joe's was able to cut the lead to a single point on two occasions early in the second period, but could never tie or take the lead down the stretch.

Despite being outrebounded by St. Joseph's, 30-26, Skidmore was able to force 24 turnovers and collect 13 steals in the victory. The Thoroughbreds also hit eight three-pointers in the contest. Gaugler had four steals in addition to her 16 points for Skidmore. The Monks were led by 15 points from Ashley Geel and 13 from Daigle in the loss.
