RESULTS
BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College swimming and diving teams
hosted the University of Maine-Orono in a non-scoring meet on
Saturday at Greason Pool. The Polar Bears boasted
several individual and relay victories against their Division I
neighbors in the competition, claiming wins in 19 of the 34
events.
Four members of the women's team earned individual victories in the
meet. Elisa Cecere took first in the 100 butterfly (1:02.84),
Katherine Foley in the 100 backstroke (1:02.82), Caitlin Callahan
in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.16) and Emily Shoemaker in the 50
butterfly (27.26). The women's 200 yard medley relay of Allen
Garner, Callahan, Cecere and Kaley Kokomor and the 200 freestyle
relay team of Shoemaker, Foley, Kokomoor and Garner were also
victorious.
Zach Perez led the men's team with three first-place finishes.
Perez claimed the 1000 freestyle (10:19.25), 100 breaststroke
(1:05.78) and 400 individual medley (4:22.06) races. Earning a pair
of wins apiece were David Wells in the 200 (1:51.09) and 500
(4:59.80) freestyle, Mac Routh in the 50 backstroke (25.26) and 50
butterfly (23.89) and Nathan Mecray in the 100 butterfly (54.41)
and 100 individual medley (53.98). Also earning victories for
Bowdoin were EJ Googins in the 50 freestyle (22.71) and Tanner
Horst in the 100 backstroke (58.61). The Polar Bear men also posted
a pair of relay triumphs, as the 200 yard medley relay of Basyl
Stuyvesant, Mecray, Routh and Googins and the 200 freestyle relay
squad of Matt Kwan, Mecray, Stuyvesant and Googins took gold.
The Polar Bear swim teams will return to action on January 30 at
Wesleyan.
