BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's and women's swimming
and diving teams swept Bates in a home meet at Greason Pool on
Saturday. The women edged the Bobcats by a 152-142 margin while the
men cruised to a 179-115 victory. Both teams stand at 2-1 this
season after the triumph.
The men's team was led by a trio of individual victories for both
Zach Perez and Nathan Mecray. Perez earned top honors in the 1000
freestyle, 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley races for the
Polar Bears, while Mecray took first in the 50 and 100 freestyles
and 100 breaststroke competitions. Other winners for the men's team
included David Wells, who claimed the 200 and 500 freestyle swims,
Basyl Stuyvesant (200 breaststroke) and Mac Routh (100 butterfly).
The men's 200 medley relay squad of Stuyvesant, Perez, Routh and EJ
Googins also placed first, as did the 400 free relay team of
Googins, Routh, Stuyvesant and Mecray.
Katherine Foley paced the women's team with victories in the 200
and 500 freestyle events while also teaming with Megan Sullivan,
Allison Palmer and Kaley Kokomoor to pick up key points in the 400
yard freestyle relay race. Palmer won the 50 freestyle, Allen
Garner claimed the 200 individual medley and Caitlin Callahan took
first in the 100 breaststroke for the Polar Bears.
