STANDISH, Maine - A late goal in each half propelled the Bowdoin
College men's soccer team to a 2-0 blanking of St. Joseph's on
Sunday afternoon. The Polar Bears (3-1) have won three consecutive
games after their season-opening setback at second-ranked Amherst,
outscoring their opponents 9-1 over the last three contests. St.
Joseph's falls to 4-3-1 with the setback.
The game was scoreless until the 44:49 mark of the first half when
Eddie Jones tallied an unassisted goal, his third marker of the
season, to lift the visitors to a 1-0 edge heading into
intermission. The Monks went on to hold the Polar Bears without a
goal for the next 40 minutes of play, but managed few scoring
chances during the same span. Tim Prior scored the final goal of
the game off a Nick Powell pass with 5:52 remaining.
Monks keeper Will Pike made 11 saves and Paul Robins had two shots
in the loss. For Bowdoin, Garrick Sheldon made two stops to record
his first shutout of the fall in the win. The Polar Bears have now
held opponents scoreless for their last 196:35 of play. Bowdoin is
set to host NESCAC opponent Middlebury next Saturday at noon.
