WATERVILLE, Maine - The Bowdoin College softball team finished
their season with a flourish, sweeping Colby by scores of 4-3 and
5-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears close out their season
with a record of 22-16-1 while Bowdoin's senior class ends their
four-year careers with a program-best 89 victories.
Bowdoin was down to its final out in game one before loading the
bases on consecutive singles by Kaitee Daley, Lauren Coven, and
Shavonne Lord. The Polar Bears then got the three runs they would
need on an outfield error by Colby. Daley, Coven, and Lord all had
two hits in the game. Karen Reni picked up her fifth victory of the
season for Bowdoin, while Alyssa Crowell was the tough luck loser
for Colby. Alex Essman had one hit and two runs in the first game
for Colby (17-10, 3-9).
Coven had an RBI double and Lord smacked an RBI single as Bowdoin
scored three times in the first inning of the nightcap. Coven
finished with three hits, two runs, and two RBI. Essman had an RBI
single among Colby's three hits in the second game. Julia
Jacobs went the distance for Bowdoin in the second game to earn her
seventh victory.
