BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Colby College softball team rallied from a
three-run deficit to take a 6-5 win over Bowdoin in NESCAC East
Division play on Friday afternoon. The Mules improve to 17-8 (3-7
NESCAC) with the victory while the Polar Bears fall to 20-16-1 (2-8
NESCAC) with the loss. The squads will play a doubleheader
beginning at noon on Saturday in Waterville.
Bowdoin took a 4-1 lead after batting around in the third frame.
The Polar Bears took advantage of three Colby errors in the frame
to grab the lead. The Mules scored twice in the fourth to close the
gap to a single run as they scored twice without collecting a hit.
Colby took the lead for good in the fifth, scoring three times and
going ahead on a two-run single by Christine Gillespie. Bowdoin
would close the advantage to a single run in the fifth on a Jessica
Paris sacrifice fly, but Colby's Alyssa Crowell shut down Bowdoin
over the final two frames to seal the win.
Crowell earned the victory after 4.1 innings of relief, allowing
one earned run. Julia Jacobs took the loss for Bowdoin after
permitting four earned runs over 4.2 innings, allowing five walks.
Allyson Cheever and Carlie Minichino had two hits apiece for the
Mules while Shavonne Lord, Emma Powers and Alison Coleman were
multiple hitters for the Polar Bears.
