WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Bowdoin College baseball team dropped a
doubleheader to Curry College in their season-opener on Sunday. The
Polar Bears fell by scores of 13-4 and 21-8. Joe Berte led the
Polar Bears by reaching base six times, homering and collecting
four rbi's in the two games.
Curry jumped on the Polar Bears early in game one, leading 7-0
after three innings. Bowdoin rallied for four runs in the sixth
inning behind a two-run homer from Berte, an Ian Edwards triple and
Adam Marquit sac fly. Ben Higgins (2.1 IP, 3 earned runs) was
tagged with the loss for Bowdoin.
A two-run homer by Matt Ruane gave Bowdoin an early lead in game
two, but Curry rallied with with nine runs in the second inning and
cruised to victory. Ruane rapped an rbi triple later in the game
while Berte slapped a two-run single for Bowdoin. Pat Driscoll took
the loss for Bowdoin in 2.2 innings, allowing nine runs.
