HARTFORD, Conn. - Sophomore hurler Kara Nilan allowed three hits
and one run in six innings and senior catcher Ali Coleman connected
on a two-run homer to lead the visiting Bowdoin College softball
team in a 6-2 win over Trinity on Friday afternoon. Trinity falls
to 7-7 with its first loss in three games, while Bowdoin improves
to 12-5 with its third win in a row.
The teams will complete a three-game series tomorrow with a
doubleheader. The time for the first game tomorrow has been moved
up from noon to 11:30 a.m.
Bowdoin struck early on a two-run roundtripper by Coleman in the
second inning and added another run two batters later on a single
and a three-base error in the Bantam outfield. The Polar Bears
tacked on three more runs in the top of the fourth frame on two
sacrifice flies and wild pitch.
Trinity scored its first run in the fourth inning on an RBI double
by junior SS Patricia Cipicchio. Junior Jessica Tait manufactured
another Bantam run on a single, a stolen base, a wild pitch and an
RBI groundout by senior co-captain Stacy Hathcox.
Nilan whiffed four batters for Bowdoin before giving way to
Michelle Wells, who allowed a single run in the seventh. Kristen
Anderson took the loss for the Bantams.
