WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - A pair of stellar pitching performances led
the Bowdoin College baseball team to a sweep of Wentworth on
Friday. Bowdoin hammered their way to an 18-1 win in game one and
cruised to a 6-0 victory in game two.
Ben Higgins went the distance, allowing just two hits and one run
while striking out seven in the first contest. Bowdoin scored five
times in the first inning, capped by a three-run homer from Brendan
Garner. Adam Marquit had three hits including two doubles while
Matt Ruane and Jason Koperniak also had three hits.
Pat Driscoll was outstanding on the mound in the second game,
tossing seven innings of shutout ball, allowing just two hits while
whiffing eight. Joe Pace got Bowdoin going with a two-run single in
the fourth. The Polar Bears got some breathing room in the top of
the seventh when Koperniak cleared the bases with a three-run
triple.
