WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Bowdoin College baseball team split a
doubleheader with Penn State-Altoona on Tuesday, dropping game one,
6-2, before claiming the nightcap, 10-4. The Polar Bears are 3-3
this season.
Bowdoin committed three errors in game one, allowing four unearned
runs in the loss. Tim Welch allowed two earned runs in 4.2 innings
in the defeat, while Reid Auger, Kevin Zikaras and Jason Koperniak
collected two hits apiece.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth and down by two
runs, Joe Pace lined a hard line drive foul. Pace straightened out
his next drive for a go-ahead grand slam to give Bowdoin the lead.
Joe Berte also homered while Joe Comizio reached base four times
with a pair of hits and walks. Luke Potter got the no-decision
after working 4.2 innings and permitting just two runs. Evan Farley
got the win in relief for the Polar Bears.
