Men's Ice Hockey Dims Beacons in Season Debut

BOX SCORE

BOSTON, Mass. - The Bowdoin College men's ice hockey team scored three times late in the first period en route to an eventual 5-3 win over UMass-Boston in their season debut on Friday. The Polar Bears (1-0-0) will travel to play at Babson on Saturday afternoon.

Graham Sisson and Ryan Blossom scored twice apiece for Bowdoin, and the duo opened the scoring for the Polar Bears just 14 seconds apart at 14:49 and 15:03 to give the visitors an early lead. Kyle Shearer-Hardy's first goal of the season at 18:59 gave Bowdoin a 3-0 lead at the first intermission.

Bowdoin padded their lead to 4-0 on Sisson's second goal seven minutes into the second frame. The Beacons trimmed the advantage with a pair of goals - 30 seconds apart - late in the period to make it 4-2 after forty minutes. Blossom netted an short-handed empty-netter before a late UMass-Boston goal made it a 5-3 final

Richard Nerland stopped 28 shots, including 13 in the opening period. Bowdoin was charged with 13 penalties, but held the Beacons to 2-for-11 on the powerplay.
