BOSTON, Mass. - The Bowdoin College men's ice hockey team scored
three times late in the first period en route to an eventual 5-3
win over UMass-Boston in their season debut on Friday. The Polar
Bears (1-0-0) will travel to play at Babson on Saturday
afternoon.
Graham Sisson and Ryan Blossom scored twice apiece for Bowdoin, and
the duo opened the scoring for the Polar Bears just 14 seconds
apart at 14:49 and 15:03 to give the visitors an early lead. Kyle
Shearer-Hardy's first goal of the season at 18:59 gave Bowdoin a
3-0 lead at the first intermission.
Bowdoin padded their lead to 4-0 on Sisson's second goal seven
minutes into the second frame. The Beacons trimmed the advantage
with a pair of goals - 30 seconds apart - late in the period to
make it 4-2 after forty minutes. Blossom netted an short-handed
empty-netter before a late UMass-Boston goal made it a 5-3
final
Richard Nerland stopped 28 shots, including 13 in the opening
period. Bowdoin was charged with 13 penalties, but held the Beacons
to 2-for-11 on the powerplay.
