WORCESTER, Mass. – Three players scored in double-figures
to lead Bowdoin College to an 86-49 non-conference victory over
Clark University on Monday night at the Kneller Athletic Center.
Winners of nine of its last 10 games, Bowdoin raised its record to
12-3. Clark dropped to 5-8 overall.
Sophomore Colleen Sweeney and freshman Jill Henrikson had 12
points a piece to lead the Polar Bears. Sophomore Katie Bergeron
finished with 10 points, while senior Maria Noucas grabbed a
game-high seven rebounds. Sarah Roderigue led Clark with 13 points
and six boards, while freshman Kate Minister registered 10
points.
Off to a fast start, Bowdoin hit four three-pointers to take a
10-point lead (18-8) just over eight minutes into the game. The
Polar Bears led by as many as 15 (29-14), before Clark used an 8-1
run to get within 30-22 with 3:55 on the clock. The visitors'
pressure defense caused three Clark turnovers in the final minutes
of the half, and they headed into the locker room with a 36-27
advantage.
Bowdoin forced 16 Clark turnovers in the half, but were
out-rebounded, 23-19. Bowdoin gradually pulled away from the
Cougars on the way to building a commanding 26-point lead (66-44)
on a pair of freebies by Sweeney with 6:36 to play. Clark, which
committed 26 turnovers and shot just 33.3 percent from the field,
was never able to get back into the game.
Bowdoin will open their NESCAC schedule on Saturday when they
travel to play at Colby. Gametime is 2:00 p.m. in Waterville.
