BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin's Lindsay McNamara scored three more
goals, increasing her season total to 14, as the top-ranked Polar
Bear field hockey team blanked Bates 6-0 in a NESCAC contest at
Howard F. Ryan Field on Wednesday evening. Bowdoin stands at 5-0
(2-0 NESCAC) this season while the Bobcats bow to 1-3 (0-2)
overall.
McNamara got the Polar Bears on the board early, connecting on a
shot off her own rebound to give Bowdoin the lead at 8:34. Several
strong saves by Bates' Katie McEnroe kept the Bobcats in the game
until late in the period, when a flurry of Bowdoin goals put the
game out of reach. Ingrid Oelschlager scored a pair of goals in the
final 15 minutes of the half, sandwiched around Leah Ferenc's first
career tally to give the Polar Bears a 4-0 edge at
intermission.
McNamara scored just 38 seconds into the second half and added her
third tally 7:13 later to close out the scoring. Emileigh Mercer
(35 minutes, 1 save) and Emily Neilson (35 minutes, 0 saves) split
time in net for the Polar Bears. McEnroe (56 minutes, 15 saves)
gave way to Helena Turner (14 minutes, two saves) for the
Bobcats.
Bowdoin has now won their last 23 decisions over Bates dating back
to 1986.
