BRUNSWICK, Maine - The top-ranked Bowdoin College field hockey
team won their 30th consecutive game in a 3-0 decision over the
University of Maine-Farmington on Wednesday evening. The Polar
Bears move to 10-0 this season while the Beavers drop to 6-5
overall.
A pair of first-half goals put Bowdoin ahead, as Kristen Veiga
rapped home a back-door feed from Julia King just 2:41 into the
contest. Ten minutes later, King slapped a shot from the top of the
circle that Lindsay McNamara redirected for her 19th goal of the
season and a 2-0 advantage at the break. First-year Ella Curren
collected her first career tally in the second half, backhanding a
low shot that darted between defenders to close out the scoring at
55:02.
Emileigh Mercer posted a shutout and stopped the only shot she
faced in the victory. Kaeleigh Barker kept Farmington within
shouting distance, making several acrobatic stops and finishing
with 14 saves.
