BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's rugby team scored
17 points in the second half to take a hard-fought 22-0 win over
rival Bates on Saturday. The Polar Bears stand undefeated (4-0) in
NERFU play and 7-1 overall.
A penalty-filled first half saw the lone score come from Anna
Nicole, off of nifty assists from Rebecca Stevens and Maria
Koenigs. Despite closing in on the goalline before intermission,
Bowdoin could not improve their lead and held the 5-0 advantage at
the break.
The Polar Bears opened up some space in the second half, keyed by
Alivia Moore, who solidified the back line and scored the opening
try of the second period to double Bowdoin's lead. Later in the
half, Hannah Larson scored from the wing and Nicole rounded out the
scoring by fielding a kick on the bounce and turning the corner to
put the game out of reach. Stevens converted the try to make the
final 22-0.
Bowdoin will close out their regular-season slate next Saturday at
home against Maine-Orono.
