BRUNSWICK, Maine - Off to the best start in school history and the
only unbeaten team in Division III, the Bowdoin field hockey team
is ranked sixth in the latest national poll released on Tuesday by
the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The Polar Bears
(10-0) were ranked eighth in last week's poll.
The Polar Bears, who play Maine-Farmington on Tuesday night,
received four first-place votes in the latest top-20 ranking.
Bowdoin is 2-0 against teams also ranked in the poll, with wins
over Middlebury and Williams. The Polar Bears are 7-0 in NESCAC
play and can clinch the top seed in the conference tournament with
a victory at Trinity on Saturday.
It is the first time that Bowdoin has started a season with 10
straight victories, and has extended the Polar Bears' streak of
seasons with at least 10 wins to an astonishing 14 consecutive
years; easily the most of any NESCAC team.
