BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team
regained the top spot in the D3Hoops.com National Poll, while
rookie Marisa Berne (Falmouth, Maine) earned regional honors for
her performance last week in a pair of Polar Bear wins. Bowdoin
(12-1) returns to action Tuesday night at Ithaca College.
Berne took co-NESCAC Player of the Week and earned the MWBCA
(Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association) Rookie of the Week
as she averaged 13.0 points in two victories against
regionally-ranked teams. She went 5-7 from three-point range and
scored a team-high 17 points as the second-ranked Polar Bears dealt
ninth-ranked Bates their first loss of the season. For the weekend,
Berne was 8-11 from three-point range as Bowdoin extended their
home winning streak to 49 games.
The Polar Bears, after a one-week respite, took 11 first-place
votes to regain the top slot in the D3Hoops.com national poll. In a
week full of upsets in the top ten, Bowdoin rose from second to
first and is ranked ahead of two unbeaten teams, Messiah (14-0) and
Brandeis (12-0).
