Bowdoin College

Frank Pizzo ’06 has served as head coach of the Bowdoin sailing program since 2008, overseeing the program’s emergence as a consistent contender in one of the nation’s most competitive collegiate sailing regions. A two-time NEISA Coach of the Year, Pizzo has guided the Polar Bears to numerous national championship appearances and coached a host of All-NEISA and All-America honorees. Bowdoin reached new heights in 2026, finishing fourth at the Women’s Fleet Race National Championship for the best finish in program history at the event.

At Bowdoin

• Head Coach of Men’s and Women’s Sailing since 2008.
• Guided Bowdoin to its first national championship qualification in program history in 2014.
• Led the Polar Bears to a program-best fourth-place finish at the 2026 Women’s Fleet Race National Championship.
• Guided Bowdoin to its first-ever appearance at the Women’s Team Race National Championship in 2026.
• Has coached numerous All-NEISA selections and All-Americans, including 2026 Women’s Skipper All-American Lauren Russler.
• Two-time NEISA Coach of the Year, earning the honor in 2012 and 2019.
• Named the 2015 Sail1Design Coach of the Year.
