Conor Smith

Conor Smith has served as head coach of the Bowdoin men’s tennis program since 2011, developing the Polar Bears into one of the premier programs in NCAA Division III. His tenure is highlighted by the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championship, three NESCAC titles and a consistent presence among the nation’s top-ranked teams. Smith was named the 2016 ITA National Coach of the Year and is a five-time NESCAC Coach of the Year.

At Bowdoin

  • Head Coach of Men’s Tennis since 2011.
  • Guided Bowdoin to the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championship, the first team national title in program history.
  • Led the Polar Bears back to the NCAA Championship match in 2018, finishing as national runners-up.
  • Three-time NESCAC Champions: 2017, 2018 and 2024.
  • Has consistently kept Bowdoin among the top programs in Division III, including numerous deep runs in the NCAA Tournament.
  • Coached three NCAA individual national championships: Grant Urken in singles, Tristan Bradley in singles, and Urken and Jerry Jiang in doubles.
  • Five-time NESCAC Coach of the Year, the most in conference history.
  • Named the 2016 ITA Division III National Coach of the Year.

Athletic Career

  • Two-time All-American at the University of Mary Washington.
  • Ranked as high as No. 15 nationally in NCAA Division III singles.
  • Named the 2000 Capital Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year.
  • Named the 2003 ITA Senior Regional Player of the Year.
  • Inducted into the University of Mary Washington Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.
