Bill Mason

Bill Mason

Bill Mason has served as head coach of the Bowdoin men’s lacrosse program since 2021 and has quickly established the Polar Bears among the nation’s premier Division III programs. Through five seasons, Mason owns a 78–20 record and has guided Bowdoin to four NCAA Tournament appearances, highlighted by three consecutive trips to the NCAA semifinals from 2024–26.

  • Has coached over a dozen All-Americans, national, and conference award winners, including NESCAC Players of the Year Donal Mullane (2022), Will Byrne (2024) and Casey Ryan (2026) and Defensive Players of the Year Jed Hoggard (2025) and Nico Schermer (2026).

  • 2021–present: Head Coach, Bowdoin College
  • 2016–21: Head Coach, Lasell University (61–23 overall record and two GNAC Championships in 2017 and 2021)
  • Coached 47 All-GNAC selections and the program’s first USILA All-American
  • 2014–16: Assistant Coach/Defensive Coordinator, Bates College
  • Helped lead Bates to its first NCAA Tournament appearance and victory
  • 2012–14: Offensive Assistant/Recruiting Coordinator, Western New England University
  • Helped WNEU to an undefeated conference season, a top-15 national ranking and NCAA Tournament appearance.
Education
  • 2012 graduate of Western New England University
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication
  • Earned a master’s degree in Athletic Administration from Lasell University in 2020.
Athletic Career
  • Three-year midfielder at Western New England University
  • Member of the 2009 Commonwealth Coast Conference championship team
  • Returned to his alma mater to begin his collegiate coaching career following graduation
