Ben Lamanna

Ben Lamanna has served as head coach of the Bowdoin women’s tennis program since 2019 and has returned the Polar Bears to prominence among the nation’s top Division III programs. Bowdoin has reached the NCAA quarterfinals in each of the last two seasons, while the 2026 team advanced to the NESCAC Championship match for the first time in program history. Lamanna was named the ITA Division III Women’s National Coach of the Year in 2025 and has earned NESCAC Coach of the Year honors in each of the last two seasons.

At Bowdoin

  • Head Coach of Women’s Tennis since 2019.
  • Guided Bowdoin to consecutive NCAA Division III quarterfinal appearances in 2025 and 2026, going 32-14 in dual matches during the course of the two years. 
  • Led the Polar Bears to 17 victories in 2025, the second-highest single-season total in program history and the program’s most wins in seven seasons.
  • Guided Bowdoin to the 2026 NESCAC Championship match, the first appearance in the conference final in program history.
  • Named NESCAC Coach of the Year in 2025 and 2026.
  • Named the 2025 ITA Division III Women’s National Coach of the Year.
  • Has coached numerous All-NESCAC and nationally ranked players during Bowdoin’s recent resurgence.

Coaching Resume

  • 2019–present: Head Coach, Women’s Tennis — Bowdoin College.
  • 2006–19: Head Coach, Men’s and Women’s Tennis — Brandeis University.
  • Guided the Brandeis women to the first national ranking and NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
  • Elevated the Brandeis men into the national top 10, reaching No. 8 in the nation in 2018–19.
  • Two-time University Athletic Association Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year.
  • Named the 2018–19 ITA Division III Men’s National Coach of the Year.
  • One of a select group of coaches in Division III history to earn ITA National Coach of the Year honors in both men’s and women’s tennis.

  • Bates College, 2002.

Athletic Career

  • Competed collegiately at Bates College.
  • Made three NCAA Tournament appearances during his playing career.
  • Played throughout the singles lineup for the Bobcats.
  • Posted a 15-1 singles record during his junior season.
  • Recipient of the 2002 NESCAC Clarence Chaffee Award, recognizing sportsmanship and excellence in men’s tennis.
