Bowdoin College

Marissa O’Neil ’05 has served as head coach of the Bowdoin women’s ice hockey program since 2010, returning to Brunswick after an outstanding two-sport career as a Polar Bear. A NESCAC championship-winning coach and two-time NESCAC Coach of the Year, O’Neil guided Bowdoin to the 2013 conference title and NCAA Tournament and was inducted into the Bowdoin Athletic Hall of Honor in 2018.

• Head coach of the Bowdoin women’s ice hockey program since 2010
• Has won 169 games in 15 seasons as head coach
• Led the Polar Bears to postseason play in all but two seasons
• Guided Bowdoin to the 2013 NESCAC Championship and NCAA Division III Tournament
• Two-time NESCAC Coach of the Year (2012-13, 2024-25) and 2012-13 New England Coach of the Year
• Has coached more than 20 All-NESCAC honorees
• Inducted into the Bowdoin Athletic Hall of Honor in 2018 following her decorated two-sport career as a Polar Bear

Athletic Career

• Outstanding two-sport athlete in ice hockey and field hockey at Bowdoin
• Helped women’s hockey win NESCAC Championships in 2002 and 2004
• Played in the NCAA Tournament all four years, reaching the national semifinals twice
• Three-time All-NESCAC selection in ice hockey and member of the 2003 NCAA Division III All-Tournament Team
• In field hockey, was the 2001 NESCAC Rookie of the Year and 2003 NESCAC Player of the Year
• Earned All-America honors in field hockey and was a three-time First Team All-NESCAC selection
• Received Bowdoin’s Lucy L. Shulman Award in 2005 as the College’s outstanding senior female athlete
