Derek Whitmore

Derek Whitmore joined the men's ice hockey program as a volunteer assistant coach after being with the Chicago Steel of the USHL for the past few seasons. Whitmore was previously with Bowdoin as an assistant coach for the women's ice hockey program from 2018-20. A native of Rochester, N.Y., and graduate of Bowling Green State University, his playing career included five years in the AHL, including two with the Portland Pirates, and a two-game stint in the NHL with the Buffalo Sabres in 2011-12. He was a team captain at Bowling Green and received numerous team awards during his career, including being named both the Portland Pirates and Rochester Americans AHL Man of the Year. Whitmore has worked in youth coaching over the last eight years, serving as a strength & conditioning coach and on-ice instructor for Stride Envy Hockey since 2010. He has also spent the last two years working as a personal trainer for collegiate and professional athletes at Beyond Strength. Whitmore graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2008 with a degree in Exercise Science.
