Bowdoin College

Hired at Bowdoin in 2001 as Sports Information Director, Jim Caton was named Assistant Athletic Director for Communications in the summer of 2012, and Associate Director of Athletics in the summer of 2024. 

Caton handles all of the media and public relations requests for the Polar Bears’ 31 varsity athletic teams and maintains the official Bowdoin Athletics website (http://www.goubears.com) and social media channels.The department manages home athletic events and writes pre- and post-game releases on each of Bowdoin’s athletic contests, which are distributed to regional and national media outlets while also overseeing Bowdoin's partnership with the Northeast Sports Network to broadcast over 125 events live from campus each year. The office also supervises the collection of school records and compiles each of the teams’ statistical data in order to report to the NESCAC and NCAA. 

Since becoming Sports Information Director, Caton has been able to garner attention for Bowdoin athletes in several national outlets,including ESPN SportsCenter, Sports Illustrated, the New York Times, The Sporting News and ESPN the Magazine among others. He has also served as the primary contact for dozens of NESCAC and NCAA Tournaments and acts as chair of the Athletic Department's Annual Awards Committee, and helps coordinate the biennial Bowdoin Athletic Hall of Honor Selection process. 

A 2000 graduate of Ithaca College, Caton served one year as assistant director of Athletic Communications at Middlebury (Vt.) College. He currently resides in Topsham with his wife Jennifer and daughter Claire.
