Bowdoin Athletics - Home Event Spectator Guidelines

Bowdoin College asks all spectators at home athletic events to follow the guidelines outlined below.  This website will be updated periodically based upon the ongoing evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and visitors to campus are encouraged to visit this site prior to attending a competition on campus.  Your attention to these guidelines and support of the safety and well-being of our students, coaches, staff, and fellow spectators is greatly appreciated. 

For those who prefer to watch from home, every on-campus sporting event will be carried live on the Northeast Sports Network.

Effective February 28, 2022:

In accordance with recently updated guidance from the New England Small College Athletic Conference, the College has updated our spectator policy for athletic events as outlined below.
  • Children who are not eligible to be vaccinated (4 years old and younger) may attend events on campus.
  • Anyone who is eligible to be vaccinated and to receive a booster shot (5 years old and older) is required to be vaccinated and boosted; please be prepared to provide proof of being fully vaccinated and boosted.
    • Public health officials consider an individual to be fully vaccinated two weeks after their final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine
    • Boosters are required 6 months from the date of a second Pfizer or Moderna vaccine shot or an initial Johnson & Johnson vaccine shot
    • If indoors, spectators must wear a mask at all times (surgical or KN95 equivalent)
  • Away contests
    • Please visit the website of the opposing institution and/or host venue for event specific spectator guidelines.
Vaccination and Booster Information Verification Process:
  • Spectators can be prepared to provide proof of being fully vaccinated and boosted in one of three ways:
    • Registering for campus events through the Health Pass by Clear App
    • A CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card and a valid photo ID
    • A photocopy or mobile photo of a CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card and a valid photo ID
  • Boosters are required 6 months from the date of a second Pfizer or Moderna vaccination shot or an initial Johnson & Johnson vaccination shot.
Post-game Gatherings:
  • Post-game gatherings with students and spectators are permitted outdoors effective March 7, 2022.   
 
Effective February 24, 2022:

  • Students, faculty, and staff participating in the Bowdoin COVID testing program will be permitted to attend home contests
    • Students, faculty, and staff will need to display their Bowdoin ID in order to enter home events
    • Spectators must wear a mask at all times (surgical or KN95 equivalent)
  • Spectators not participating in the Bowdoin COVID testing program are welcome to attend home athletic events with the following guidelines:
    • Children who are not eligible to be vaccinated (4 years old and younger) may attend indoor and outdoor events on campus.
    • Anyone who is eligible to be vaccinated and to receive a booster shot (5 years old and older) is required to be vaccinated and boosted; this will be checked prior to entry to every indoor home event (additional information provided below)
      • Public health officials consider an individual to be fully vaccinated two weeks after their final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine
      • Boosters are required 6 months from the date of a second Pfizer or Moderna vaccine shot or an initial Johnson & Johnson vaccine shot
    • Spectators must wear a mask at all times (surgical or KN95 equivalent)
    • Spectators will be limited to 75% of maximum venue capacity
  • Away contests
    • Please visit the website of the opposing institution and/or host venue for event specific spectator guidelines
  • Outdoor contests at Bowdoin
    • Spectators are permitted at outdoor contests
    • Please be prepared to provide proof of being fully vaccinated and boosted
Vaccination and Booster Information Verification Process:
  • Spectators will be required to show proof of being fully vaccinated and boosted in one of three ways prior to entering campus buildings:
    • Registering for campus events through the Health Pass by Clear App
    • A CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card and a valid photo ID
    • A photocopy or mobile photo of a CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card and a valid photo ID
  • Boosters are required 6 months from the date of a second Pfizer or Moderna vaccination shot or an initial Johnson & Johnson vaccination shot
  • Spectators are strongly encouraged to complete the Health Pass by Clear App registration process in order to help facilitate efficient access to Bowdoin home athletic contests. 
 

Effective December 21, 2021 through January 2022: 

Due to the prevalence of the Omicron variant NESCAC institutions will limit spectators to students, faculty, and staff participating in host institution testing programs during the month of January. Read the full announcement here

Bowdoin students, faculty and staff should be prepared to present their Bowdoin ID prior to entering home athletic events.  A summary of current spectator policies for Bowdoin athletic events is provided below:
  • Students, faculty, and staff participating in the Bowdoin COVID testing program will be permitted to attend home contests
    • Includes students on campus for winter break
    • Students, faculty and staff will need to display their Bowdoin ID in order to enter home events
  • Away contests at NESCAC institutions
    • Bowdoin spectators are not permitted
  • Away contests at non-NESCAC institutions
    • Bowdoin spectators permitted at the discretion of the home institution – please check the opposing institution athletics website for spectator policies
  • Outdoor contests
    • Spectators are permitted at outdoor contests


Effective: September 21, 2021-December 21, 2021
 
Indoor Competition Venues:
  • Fully vaccinated spectators 12 years of age and older are permitted at indoor events
    • Public health officials consider an individual to be fully vaccinated two weeks after their final dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Spectators will be required to show proof of full vaccination in one of three ways prior to entering campus buildings:
    • Registering for campus events through the Health Pass by Clear App
    • A CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card
    • A photocopy or mobile photo of a CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card and valid photo ID
  • Spectators will be required to mask while indoors
  • Due to current CDC age limits on vaccinations, individuals under the age of 12 are not permitted at indoor events
 Outdoor Competition Venues:
  • Spectators are expected to be fully vaccinated and are asked to be prepared to show proof of full vaccination in one of three ways:
    • Registering for campus events through the Health Pass by Clear App
    • A CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card and valid photo ID
    • A photocopy or mobile photo of a CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card and valid photo ID
  • Spectators under the age of 12 are permitted, but required to mask at outdoor events
  • All other spectators are asked to follow current CDC guidance for outdoor activities by considering masking when distancing cannot be maintained
  • Spectators will not be permitted within campus buildings; alternative restroom access will be provided
Tailgating and Post-Game Team Gatherings:
  • Tailgating and post-game team gatherings with spectators will not be permitted until further notice. This includes
    • Single or multi-family pre- or post-game tailgates
    • Team gatherings with parents, spectators, etc. prior to or after contests
    • No tents, tables or grills permitted in parking areas.
  • Please plan to arrive for an event, enjoy the contest, and depart in a timely fashion
Concessions:
  • Where concessions are sold, spectators are asked to maintain distancing while eating
