BRUNSWICK, Maine – The No. 15 nationally-ranked Bowdoin men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season in 2-0 fashion to No. 3 nationally-ranked Middlebury at the Pickard Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears (4-1-2, 2-1-1 NESCAC) allowed two goals by the Panthers (5-0-1, 3-0-1 NESCAC) in the second half on Homecoming. 

Game Highlights

• Despite entering halftime scoreless, both teams rang the post in the first 45 minutes. Middlebury had the first scoring opportunity of the day with Harper Nicholl registering a shot in the 31st minute that hit the left post.

• Bowdoin answered with a chance minutes later when Alden Mehta rang the crossbar for the home team.

• Middlebury broke through in the second half with Dylan Payne scoring in the 46th minute moments after a corner kick, streaking through the Polar Bears defense before finding the back of the net for the 1-0 edge.

• The Panthers put the game away in the 87th minute Charlie Johnson scoring off a crossing pass by Orlando Cavaceppi-Dove to decide the game at 2-0.

By the Numbers

• Middlebury held a 10-4 shot advantage and a 5-3 edge in shots on goal while also holding the Polar Bears without a corner kick compared to three by the visitors.

• Patrick Brady registered two shots while joining Sam Ames with the lone shots on goal.

• Goalkeeper Oliver King made three saves for the Polar Bears.
