Matt Taylor Named Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Matt Taylor as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications.

Taylor comes to Brunswick from Michigan Technological University, where he most recently served as Director of Athletic Communications for the Huskies. He brings extensive experience in collegiate athletic communications, including media relations, digital content, statistics, and social media.

"We are thrilled to welcome Matt to Bowdoin," said Associate Athletic Director for Communications Jim Caton. "His experience, versatility and understanding of the many different aspects of athletic communications made him an outstanding fit for our department. He has demonstrated an ability to tell compelling stories, manage the day-to-day demands of a busy department and provide outstanding coverage for student-athletes and teams. I'm excited to have him join our staff."

Taylor joined the Michigan Tech athletic communications staff in July 2022 as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications before being promoted to Director in August 2023. In his role with the Huskies, he served as the primary contact for several programs, including football, basketball, soccer, cross country, Nordic skiing, and track & field, while overseeing media relations, digital content, statistics and game-day communications efforts for the department.

Prior to Michigan Tech, Taylor served as a communications graduate assistant at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. During his time with the Vikings, he was the primary communications contact for eight programs while earning a master's degree in Sports Administration and Leadership.

A native of West Virginia, Taylor is also a former collegiate student-athlete, having competed in cross country and track & field at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. He earned his bachelor's degree in Sports Administration from Lock Haven before beginning his career in collegiate athletic communications.

In his role at Bowdoin, Taylor will assist with all aspects of the Athletic Communications office, including coverage of the Polar Bears' 31 varsity programs. His responsibilities will include maintaining GoUBears.com, producing written and social media content, coordinating statistical and live event coverage, managing records and historical information, and assisting with the department's broader external communications efforts.
