Women's Tennis Falls to Wesleyan in NESCAC Championship Match

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Bowdoin College women's tennis team came up short in its first NESCAC Championship match appearance, falling to Wesleyan 4-0 in the conference title game on Sunday afternoon. The Polar Bears (13-7) are very likely to receive an NCAA Tournament bid when selections are announced on Monday at noon.

Match Highlights
  • Bowdoin dominated at number one doubles as Zoe Sun and Bella Hartung captured a quick, 6-1 victory.
  • But the Cardinals pulled out the number two and three matches late, winning both by 6-4 scores to take a 1-0 overall lead.
  • Needing three wins to clinch it, the Cardinals picked up victories at number two (7-5, 6-0), number four (6-2, 6-2), and number five (6-1, 6-1) to claim the crown.
  • Bowdoin's Cara Hung (6-2, 4-3, unfinished) and Hartung (6-4, 3-2, unfinished) both had one set leads and Julia Ross (1-6, 5-4, unfinished) was looking to force a third when play concluded.
  • The result matches the best finish ever for Bowdoin at NESCAC's (second, 2004) but also is the best finish for the program since the tournament began its current bracketing format in 2006.
