Softball Splits High-Scoring Doubleheader With Wesleyan

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College softball team split a high-scoring doubleheader with Wesleyan on Saturday at Pickard Field, claiming a 10-1 win in the opener before falling in a wild 13-12 Cardinal victory in game two.

The Polar Bears stand at 11-2 (1-1 NESCAC) while Wesleyan moves to 7-6 (1-1 NESCAC).

Game One Highlights
  • Bowdoin took care of business in game one, scoring ten runs in the first three innings and cruising to the mercy-run rule 10-1 victory.
  • Every Polar Bear batter reached base, as Margaret Flannery-Goodman went 3-3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.
  • Reilly Parga went 2-3 with 3 rbi and 2 runs scored as well, while Anika Ewert went 3-3 with 3 runs and a stolen base.
  • Maddie Current pitched all five innings, allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out five.
Game Two Highlights
  • A see-saw affair saw the Cardinals, down to their final strike, score three times in the top of the seventh to rally for a 13-12 win.
  • Bowdoin took a 4-1 lead into the fifth, where Wesleyan scored eight runs to take a 9-4 lead, only to have the Polar Bears storm back with five runs to deadlock the score at 9-9.
  • The teams traded the lead in the sixth and the seventh innings before a game-ending rundown cut down Bowdoin's potential game-tying run to finish the contest.
  • Penelope Fong-Picariello went 4-4 with 5 RBI and three runs and three stolen bases while Rosie Panenka and Anika Ewert each had three hits on the day.
  • The teams combined for 25 runs, 35 hits, and six errors in the marathon.
