Hawks Hit Baseball With Doubleheader Sweep

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Bowdoin baseball team suffered a doubleheader sweep against Hartford with a 2-0 and 4-3 setback.
 
The Polar Bears sit at 3-5 while the Hawks climb to 4-2.
 
Game One Highlights
  • The only scoring of the game came in the first inning. Alek Popovich singled through the right side to plate a pair of runs.
  • Bowdoin was able to escape the bottom of the second without allowing a run, despite a runner on third with only one out.
  • Lukas Tsai made his way to third at the top of the fourth, but the Polar Bears were unable to capitalize.
  • In the final inning, Finn Cahill hit a leadoff single up the middle. Will Cooke put runners on first and second with a single through the left side, and Cal Thompson put a man on third with a flyout to right. With one out remaining, Bowdoin could not plate the runner.
  • Will Logue and Tsai both had a stolen base in the game.
  • Jackson Melendy suffered the loss with one inning of work with two hits and two runs.
  • Logue pitched five innings and allowed three hits with a pair of walks and strikeouts.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • After being shut out in game one, Bowdoin scored early in game two. Henry Bibeau singled to the pitcher to drive in Reuben Siegel in the first.
  • The Hawks answered with a tying run in the second inning and two more in the third.
  • An RBI groundout in the fourth made it 4-1.
  • Liam Foley mounted a comeback for Bowdoin with a two-run double down the rightfield line in the fifth.
  • Siegel and Conor Moriarty both had stolen bases in the game.
  • Bowdoin put five pitchers on the mound. Aidan Aybar started the game and Braeden Hurley came in for three innings of work. Hurley allowed four hits and four runs with three walks and two K's.
  • Rudy Gately and Hugh Devine each pitched an inning and allowed a run apiece.
  • Will Bordes pitched the final inning and struck out two.
