WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. –
Clara Noyes scored in overtime to lift the Bowdoin field hockey team to a 1-0 win over host Williams on Sunday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (6-2, 3-2 NESCAC) played their third consecutive overtime game and second in as many days. The Ephs (6-2, 4-1 NESCAC) picked up their first conference loss of the season.
Game Highlights
- Williams had multiple chances in the final minutes of regulation, including a Kiki Higgins corner shot that narrowly missed wide.
- Bowdoin's corner defense held strong with a blocked shot on another Higgins corner drive with three minutes to play.
- Bowdoin earned a corner in the final three seconds of regulation and looked to score, but the Williams defense packed in along the goal face.
- Overtime sent both teams racing up and down the full length of the field. Emily Ferguson made a 50 yard sprint to the endline and lofted a reverse over the cage.
- Maddie Mrva worked the ball down the field and earned a corner for the Polar Bears, but again the Ephs defense stood tall.
- Bowdoin ultimately scored on a corner with 1:08 remaining in the first overtime. Ferguson dished the ball left to Noyes who reversed a ball over the Williams defense.
By the Numbers
- Lauren O'Donald put together a seven save shutout to help the Polar Bears along to the win.
- Ellie Smith made 10 saves for Williams.
- Williams earned 15 corners and allowed just five Bowdoin corners. Four Bowdoin corners came in overtime.
