Women's Soccer Late Rally Not Enough To Catch Amherst

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's soccer team could not complete its second half rally and fell 2-1 to Amherst on Saturday afternoon.

Bowdoin slips to 10-4-0 (5-4-0 NESCAC) as the Mammoths rise to 9-3-2 (4-3-2 NESCAC).

Game Highlights
  • Amherst took a 1-0 lead just over ten minutes into the game. Emma Darling made a flat pass from the right side of the goal along the endline to Brooke Ingemi. Ingemi, on the near post, heeled the ball into the net as it came across.
  • Midway through the half, Charlotte Iannone broke up a one-on-goal opportunity with a big save. The rebound found the foot of Ingemi who forced Iannone to make a diving over the shoulder save.
  • The resulting corner kick set up a scoring play for the Mammoths. As Bowdoin attempted to clear the ball, Sofia Preuss intercepted the play at the top of the box and booted an arcing shot that tucked just under the crossbar.
  • Bowdoin stepped up the pressure in the second half and came up with a goal in the last 15 minutes. Kyra Hacker put a shot off the crossbar and volleyed her own rebound back into the net.

By the Numbers
  • Iannone made 15 saves, including 12 in the first half.
  • Lulu Fickes made three stops.
  • Amherst earned nine corner kicks and allowed two.
